Kyle Burns – President

I am a 4^th year PhD student in the Tilton lab studying wildfire smoke PAHs in a co-culture model with lung epithelial cells and macrophages. I am originally from Ohio and completed my B.S. in Biochemistry with a minor in pharmaceutical sciences in spring 2021 at The Ohio State University and started at Oregon State in fall 2021. Outside of the lab, I enjoy hiking, climbing, and playing guitar.

Mackenzie Morshead - Vice President

I am a 4th year PhD student in the Tanguay lab working with zebrafish to understand the toxicity of PAHs. I am originally from Northern California and graduated in 2018 from Hamilton College with my bachelors in Biochemistry/Molecular biology and Fine art. Before coming to OSU in 2021 I worked at an aging research lab and at the EPA studying aquatic toxicology. I love eating food, biking, swimming, backpacking, sewing, knitting, and spending time with my dog or anyone else’s.

Dante Perone - Treasurer and Secretary

I am a 4^th year PhD student in the Tanguay lab. My research focuses on genetic polymorphisms’ effect on gene expression and response to environmental chemicals. I am from Sherwood, Oregon and completed my undergrad at Oregon State in 2019, starting grad school two years later in 2021. I enjoy skiing, watching movies, and water activities.

Annika Gehl - Outreach Chair

I’m a 4^th year PhD student in the Tanguay lab and my research focuses on determining the toxicity of chemicals both individually and as mixtures that have been detected in the environment and in humans. My other research project explores how non-chemical stressors (ie. light stress) may affect developmental stage zebrafish. I’m from Minnesota and graduated in 2021 with a BS in biology and a BA in Spanish studies. Outside of the lab, I like to spend time with my cat Hopscotch Hula Hoop, go fishing, and cook!

Alison Clark - Outreach Co-Chair

I’m a third year PhD student in Dr. Anderson’s group, and I study PAHs and their geospatial dispersion trends as part of the OSU Superfund program. I’m originally from Louisville, Kentucky, and moved here to Corvallis a year after finishing my undergraduate in Biochemistry at Indiana University Bloomington. I’m really grateful for TeamTOX for introducing me to many of my friends; I love outreach events and especially love when we can get out into the community to volunteer. In my free time, I like to knit, garden, kickbox, and participate in local trivia events.

Esteban Hernandez - Outreach Committee Member

I’m a third year PhD student in the Field Lab. My research focus on using nuclear magnetic resonance to better understand the chemical and physical properties of PFAS. I am from North Carolina and graduated from UNC Wilmington with a M.S. in Chemistry with a focus in natural product synthesis and green chemistry. In my free time I like playing video games, gardening, and tinkering on electronics.

Peter Bright - Outreach Committee Member

I’m a second year PhD student in the Field Lab, and my research has been focused on collaboratively developing computational methods to improve and prioritize PFAS and other organic contaminants in different matrices such as drinking water and fish tissue. I am from Colorado, I graduated from Humboldt State University in 2021 with a degree in Chemistry, and I completed a master’s degree in Ocean Ecology and Biogeochemistry at OSU before joining the EMT program. In my free time I like to run, surf, and play music.

Mireia Roig-Paul - Outreach Committee Member

I’m a second year PhD student under the Field and Mermer labs, looking at PFAS and their distribution/ movement in the environment. My family is from Catalunya, but I was born in California and raised in Oregon. I graduated from OSU in 2023 with a double major and double minor in Bioresource Research, Crop & Soil Science, Chemistry, and Toxicology. I’m into plants, hiking, social justice, and languages!

Spencer Stinson - Awards Chair

I am a 3^rd year PhD student in the Tanguay lab utilizing the zebrafish model and spatial transcriptomics to understand why certain chemicals are more toxic than others. I am originally from Washington State and completed my B.S in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology from the University of Washington in 2021. After undergrad, I worked as a research scientist in a cancer research lab focusing on understanding the pathogenesis of rhabdomyosarcoma, a type of soft tissue cancer. Outside of the lab I love to hike, rock climb, ski, and travel!

Reese Valdez - Awards Committee Member

I am a 4th year PhD student in the Tilton lab studying the combined effects of pre-existing disease-related inflammation and PAH exposure in a primary lung epithelial cell model.  I grew up in Hayward, California and a suburb of Portland, Oregon.  I earned by H.B.S. in Bioresource Research with minors in chemistry, toxicology, and public health from Oregon State University in September 2021.  In my free time, I enjoy crafting, playing video games, and making music.

I am a 4^th year PhD student in the Anderson lab. My research focuses on understanding chemical movement during wildfire events and identifying chemicals in wildfire smoke. I am from Eugene, OR, and I graduated from Oregon Institute of Technology with a bachelor’s in environmental science and a minor in chemistry in 2021. I enjoy gardening, baking, hiking, and listening to music.

Miranda Jackson - Student-Faculty Liaison

I am a 4^th year PhD student mentored by both Stacey Harper and Manuel Garcia-Jaramillo. My research focuses on chemical and micro/nanoparticle roadway runoff contaminant toxicity in freshwater organisms. I grew up in Southern Illinois and graduated in 2021 with a degree in Environmental Science from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Outside of lab like to play tennis, pickleball, racquetball, be outside, and do lots of arts and crafts!

Kelsey "Kelso" Arthur  - Social Co-Chair

I am a 3^rd year PhD student in Dr. Stacey Harper’s lab, studying the effects of agriculturally derived microplastics and nanopesticides. I’m from Kentucky, and earned my B.S. from Eastern Kentucky University and then moved to Maryland where I worked in a regulatory in vitro toxicology lab for 3 years before coming to OSU. In my free time I play DnD, read, paint, workout and go to trivia with my friends.

I graduated with a B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Mississippi State University in 2023.
